Mid Month Breakfast Gathering

Changes to the 60 meter Band

On November 18, the FCC released a Report and Order (R&O), defining
new rules for the 60 meter (5 MHz) band. These rules are in response
to a Petition for Rulemaking (PRM) filed by the ARRL more than five
years ago and a June 2010 Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM). In
the February 3 edition of the Federal Register, the FCC announced
that these new rules will go into effect on March 5, 2012.

Details:
Power increase from 50 watts PEP to 100 watts PEP
3 additional modes - CW, PACTOR 3, PSK31
Replacement of 5368 kHz (5666.5 carrier) with 5358.5 kHz (5357.0 carrier)
Remember that Amateur Radio is a secondary user on 60 meters and operators MUST NOT cause interference with primary users (typically the Federal Government). Please read the attachment as there are some details that could effect your compliance with the rules & regulations governing the Amateur Radio Service. 73, John Zaruba Jr. K2ZA ARRL SNJ SEC

Some Radio History

At 1205 AM, September 18, 1925, W.R. Ebensperger, U-3JW in Gloucester City, NJ made contact with J.S. Streeter, O-A4Z located in Cape Town, South Africa. The CW contact on 36 meters was among the first to be made between the two continents. John Streeter was a founding member of the South African Radio Relay League in May of 1925. (Paraphrased from the May 2008 issue of EngineerIT magazine, author - unknown)

Important!

Our elected representatives in Washington are at it again. They want SELL OFF part of the 70cm  band for commercial use! The law would take effect ten years after the passage of HR 607.The frequency band from 420.00 MHz to 440.00 MHz and 450.00 MHz to 470.00 MHz will be auctioned off for commercial use. The bill has support from both sides of the isle. As I recall, they did the same thing to us on the "inch and 1/4" band a few years ago. It has been recommended that we go to the ARRL sample letters, fill in the letter to your own congressperson and send it to John Chwat, Chwat & Co. 625 Slaters Lane, Suite 102, Alexandria, VA 22314. Or you can email a signed letter to arrl@chwatco.com. If you send a snail mail, you might enclose your QSL card. We did that some years ago in California on a similiar issue and the legislators were impressed when they saw the QSL cards stacking up on their desks. The QSL cardf is much more impressive than a letter and leaves no doubt as to what the issue is. For more information on this proposed legislation and other ham related legislation, try GovTrack.us.

Contacting the Club Officers

Should any club member or anyone for that matter need to contact the Club Officers, they can do so by going to the Contact Us page of this website and emailing to the addresses shown or one can call the webmaster cell phone number. Apparently some club members have been having a problem with contacting the Club officers directly. The Secretary checks the email usually daily and will answer the phone.
